hi, I am 31, mother of 2 boys. I initially started this search because of my son, whom I believe has this dycalculia in a bad way. Funny thing is, I see myself in a lot of this. I have always been able to fake it, but even now when I pay with cash and get my change, I put my fingers behind my back and count. If I try to mentally add double digit numbers, they slither around in my head like snakes, and darned if I can make them stay still long enough to get an answer. I have just started to go back to college and my placement test put me in developmental math. When I add or subtract I know I have to check and recheck the answers because so many times I do the simplest math wrong. And the more I double check, the more the numbers get jumbled up. So my problems are not as severe as some of the stories here and I have always excelled in writing, verbal, language, etc, skills. But my son really needs help. Anyone that has any advice on how I can help him please let me know.

Learning disabilities run in families so you are not alone with wondering if you have one, in your search for helping your son – many parents go through that!
If it stops you from doing something you want in school, get tested, then you can ask your college for extra help etc. And maybe you can be allowed to use a calculator for simple math, if that is where your problem lies.
Wrote about help to your son in the other thread. Well, I'm going to now! ;D
